Verizon had a stylish, futuristic hit with their Arena ad campaign for the Droid Bionic smart phone, and they wanted a way to show off the robot antagonists in real life. Their agency, mcgarrybowen, hired us to make memorable, real-life replicas out of the computer-rendered robots from the ads. The data in the files from the commercials couldn't exist in reality, so we carefully reworked it into objects that obey the rules of our physical world. Solid-Ideas oversaw the project from start to finish, delivering not only four amazing robots, but also custom aluminum display pedestals and individual carrying cases. With our background in engineering and the arts, we're uniquely qualified to understand your purpose and aesthetically communicate your vision.
The Project
Using our Zcorp printer and 3D files, we 3D-printed detailed physical scale models for four Droid robot heads.
File Fixing and Modeling
Animation is a wonderful medium that allows for suspension of disbelief. Real life, however, leaves nothing to the imagination. Solid-Ideas understands how to translate 2D to 3D, so we re-worked the original files to obey the laws of physics. After digitally disassembling each robot head, we created structural integrity and 3D-printed solid, physical objects.
3D Printing
Each model robot head is built layer by layer in our state-of-the-art 3D printers. When the printing is complete, our engineers become archaeologists: blowing away the excess powder just to slowly reveal the object underneath.
Assembly & Finishing
Solid-Ideas takes pride in our 3D-prints. Each piece is carefully cleaned, infused with additional strength and given a subtle gloss finish.
Sand Blasted Display Stands
True project management means handling the job from start to finish. We worked with the client to understand their vision for displaying the robot heads and then fabricated beautiful brushed aluminum pedestals.
Safe Transportation
We take the longevity of our models very seriously. Each robot head and display stand were custom-fitted for their own individual high-tech carrying cases. Thick, die-cut foam cushioned the models to ensure safe transportation.
The Finished Sculptures
The finished robot heads are amazing to behold!
Pathe Films, producers of the Academy Award winning movie Slum Dog Millionare, wanted to make an irresistible impression at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, so their design agency, Trinity Brand Group, called upon Solid-Ideas. They tasked us with a seeming impossible job: to create custom candy molds in less than one week! We handled design, modeling, prototyping, and mold making. Not only did we deliver custom molds, but we also project-managed the making of the candies by world-famous Citizen Cake, and we shipped the branded sweets to France--all on time. 3,000 special candies shipped 6,000 miles made Pathe Films memorable to all the right people.
Impress Without Stress
Off-the-shelf candies wouldn't do for an exclusive Cannes crowd, so we created bespoke Pate de Fruits in the shape of Pathe's logo. Solid Ideas handled the entire production all the way through to completion, so our client was free to impress without the stress.
Service With the Finest "Ingredients"
Using the Pathe logo as reference, our experts modeled a 3D version suitable for the customized candies. With Pathe's approval, we provided high-quality food-grade molds to the world-renowned pastry chefs at Citizen Cake.
Positive Associations Get Results
Working non-stop under our supervision, the pastry chef at Citizen Cake made 3000 candies in four different flavors. When you want to make a memorable impression with positive associations, what could be sweeter than custom candies that show off your brand?
