Industrial Design Prototypes and Models
We offer state of the art 3D printing, rapid prototyping, custom fabrication, CAD services, along with traditional model making to build your ideas into amazing prototypes and models. We specialize in Conceptual Design along with form and fit studies for early product development, usually at 1/2 to 1/4 of the price of our competitors. Physical models help win projects, create buzz, and answer important questions sooner rather than later. Let our award-winning team of engineers and artists from Northrop, Rand, Apple Computer, and Catepillar help you.

Midé Technology Corporation
“I just wanted to say that I really appreciate the very reasonable quotes you have given us and for the overall ease of ordering with you. I have recommended you to my fellow coworkers and will try to ensure that Midé uses Solid-Ideas for all of our rapid prototyping needs. Thank you very much for all your help,”
Max Design
“Oscar took the time to understand what we wanted and helped file fix our CAD data for 3d printing a model to be used in the venture capital funding phase of our aircraft project.”
Caltrans
“Solid-Ideas 3D printing service and model making skills enables our customers to more clearly understand our
design proposals and it reduces the amount of time required for project acceptance”.
Electronic Arts
“Oscar is great to work with. His 3d printing service is prompt and he goes beyond the norm to make sure that we are satisfied."
-K. Ebner, Woodbury University
“It's been a great experience working with Solid-Ideas. The 3D printing service was fast and easy and far superior to other 3D printing I was trying out.”
-Brain J, FS-Elliott
“Holy @#$@, it looks awesome!! Great professional job! Everyone will be super pumped in the meeting.”

- The sturdiness of our models hold up to everyday use.
AFFORDABILITY
- We offer competitive pricing without sacrificing quality.
FLEXIBILITY
- Quick, cost-effective replications at various scales.
- Stress-free adaptability to your evolving needs.
- The convenience to make last-minute design changes.
- Support for a variety of file formats, including Solid Works and Sketchup.
TECHNOLOGY
- Material differentiation with multiple colors and textures.
- High levels of detail for incredibly realistic models.
- Complex shapes and geometries you never thought possible.
This amazing cooling turbine model for nuclear applications is now traveling the world. First, we took actual working CAD files and carefully sliced and prepared the model to be 3D printed in easy to assemble parts for a truly amazing 'cut-away' show model that shows all the working inside parts as well as the fully assembled outside. It even has a rotating router inside! This project was not for the faint of heart and our resident engineer and lead project manager Oscar Sarlandt did the work at the highest quality. We're experts in the creation of models that aid in challenging engineering and construction projects.
Completely 3D Printed
This model is completely made from 3D Printing technology.
Assembly & Finishing
Solid-Ideas takes pride in our models. Each piece of the whole model is carefully cleaned, infused for additional strength and hand painted for accurate spot color and a final durable protective gloss finish.
Safe Transportation
We take the longevity of our models very seriously. The complete model was custom-fitted for it's own high-tech carrying case. Thick, die-cut foam cushioned the model to ensure safe transportation.
When the NAVY needed a full size impeller replica to aid in teaching engineer students, they used Solid-Ideas for our expertise to deliver quality and value. This is a full size replica built using CAD, 3D Milling, Wood working, and Fiberglass Application.
CAD
We created an accurate CAD model using reference photos from the original.
Milling
We then moved to CNC programing and 4-axis milling out of solid wood.
Wood / Fiberglass
A good deal of wood working was done to get everything right. And a double layer of fiberglass was applied for extra strength.
Final Training Aid
We take the longevity of our models very seriously. This final model not only looks great and is an accurate reproduction of the original impeller, but it's light and tough enough to use for training for years to come.
Using photos of a vintage film canister, Solid-Ideas created a 3D model from scratch. This file was then 3D printed to make a pattern. We also added draft and shrinkage to the 3D file so the pattern would release from the mold correctly to make the perfect bronze sculpture. Our talented team uses state-of-the-art equipment and software to turn your ideas, designs, scanned data, or CAD files into full-color 3D models that can be held, walked around, studied, and used in the real world.
3D modeling from 2D plans
Using just a few photos of a vintage film reel along with 2D plans, we were able to 3D model a accurate copy of the real thing.
3D Printed Parts
Using our Zcorp printer, we 3D-printed the reel in parts for easier pattern making. We also added the proper amount of draft and shrinkage.
We know how to package models for safe transport to their final destinations. This is essential if your models are going to travel between tradeshow venues. We build custom shipping crates or use very tough Pelican Cases with custom foam inserts. Nobody wants their model showing up broken and we make sure that never happens.
Pelican Case
Custom inserts for maximum protection of models.
Custom Crate
Our crates can be used multiple times.
